District 5 grant supports activity boards for long-term care residents in 2020

Mar 28, 2022

For seniors, meaningful activities support physical, emotional and mental well-being. That’s even more important for those with Alzheimer’s disease or cognitive impairments. Residents at Villa Minto Long Term Care in Cochrane are receiving a boost via funding for new interactive boards. That’s thanks to a $4,000 grant from District 5 Cochrane Temiskaming.

The interactive boards have been proven to encourage activities and socializing, trigger memories, enhance confidence, and promote cognitive abilities and independence.

The interactive boards and activities can be used independently by residents of Villa Minto, and also as an interactive tool between residents and staff, family and volunteers. Once COVID restrictions are lifted, families and friends of residents will be invited to join in by working on an activity. Students can also be engaged through volunteer hours or co-op placements.

This project is in keeping with RTOERO’s campaign to combat social isolation.
